one year on, we sat around a table in a familiar place, familiar people piecing together bits of a story that everyone only knew a part of. we smiled at the positive things and laughed at the bad ones. strangely amidst the sadness, the house now looked better than it did before and so did everyone.

i remember the little details of the night the last time i was in the neighbourhood, but most of all i remember feeling contentment that day, not knowing that in less than 2 weeks life could never be the same again. after a year, there is still no end and no solution, only to keep walking until the day that we might understand.

today was spent hanging out with 2 happy people - in the afternoon, a friend's mum who spoke of linus van pelt.. and later a friend back on holiday on the way to becoming a cop in vancouver. it wasn't to my credit cos they both seemed to already be having a really good day. many good things have happened this week but their smiles were the unexpected highlight of my week :).

i bought my first k-pop cd last night and it was $36 from hmv, which does not carry Kleerup. (stupid!) i also bought myself a new globe holder, SA magazine (my ArchiFest article for Larry is in this issue), and a snoopy 60th anniversary lined moleskin.

previously on monday, i bought 2 tokidoki collector's stamp-sets, a new bible, some DVDs, a new pair of bedroom slippers, a cat t-shirt, some make-up, and a new toothbrush.

i still have many unaccomplished items on my wishlist (which u saw on the train).

& then while at my morning swim just now i heard the civil defence chime and had to be reminded that it has been 3 mths! :(

i do miss architecture & working very much. i will get focused and finish up on my reading, pfolio & miscellaneous hobbythings asap. (i havent even started on my battlestar galacticaaa)

... & while it might not seem so cool to be bohemian for too long, its impt to live by my own pace and follow my own plans.

Working in production was really the kind of holiday job i was looking for after july.. though i never imagined the pace of things to be so scary. In addition to being the most physically demanding job i've ever done, i got to meet many people, very many types.. which is nice - almost like getting to browse through many different books - but another kind of tiring altogether.

Its been really hard work (a different kind of difficulty compared to architecture of course). After all the glitches in the past 2 weeks, i'm really happy things eventually ran smoothly and i can't wait for the work to be out! :)

This work holiday is turning out to be what i wanted and a whole lot more :). Now there's finally time to sit back and get things back into perspective.. time to get back to real books, i missed my slow life & my oil painting very much!

Some hobby related circumstances today required me to look up this particular song... i was told its called Shorty-Blah-Blah but by the time i came home i completely forgot those 2 words. only That one word (which can be spelt in many variations) and i remembered that the song started with "be cool" and "alright alright" :|

i looked through all possible musical sources and discovered that because of the limited lyrical vocabulary of the genre, its actually really hard trying to hunt down hiphop music from lyrics and title alone. So after a really tough search, i finally found it (what kindof a rapper name is Get Cool?).. i didnt know it was from a movie - that wouldve helped a damn lot! :(

However my point is, through my tedious research, i found 2 pop songs that i have heard somewhere, quite liked and never bothered to find out becos most of them sound the same. In some unexplainable way, listening to them cheered me up.. they are of the neyo sort which i like and u ... hate :P

i was at the national art gallery (my dream work!) over the weekends. sat in as a model for the OIC illustrators. it was heaps of fun and if u look close enough, someone did draw me with an alien-shaped face. (second row from bottom)

today me, jessicat & ziqi had some sort of a short 1 hr escapade at sentosa cove. As we (unprofessionally) sat along the pavement in front of the yachts scoffing down macs lunch under the damn bloody hot sun, i felt really lucky that we were all growing up together and that archi school had given me friends that could probably last a lifetime :)

Not everything is perfect at the moment, but it is peaceful and theres still time ahead for things to work themselves out.

one of the highlights of my first client meeting yesterday was when the client patted the roof of my model and said.. "so cute"! A pet house indeed! :)

The clients really liked the work that we did - and the lesson learnt is that good house design is a balance between exciting them with unexpected spaces that we have envisioned for them and at the same time having some of our spaces turning out to be what they were expecting for their new home :).... We ended up having a fruitful discussion on how the spaces could be improved and i have to say that i never expected that working could feel so rewarding. That feeling was damn shiok!

At least my zombie-like state for the 3 weeks has not gone to waste. the next time it comes, i hope that i can do the same but with much less anxiety. After 3 really intense weeks of feeling low and sudden panic attacks, i feel like ive aged a few years - much worse than thesis time for me. Of course its not the end yet, and i havent fully recovered but i feel prepped for more challenges to come!

And as for u, Ms Bartlett... YAY!!!! I wanna see your panels and i wanna hear all abt it!! (And i wanna show u mine too!) Can we go out and celebrate now hmm??

Lets keep going, we're gonna be much better people when these challenges are over :)

Hmm, i'm actually looking forward to tuesday's crit. I think it's gonna be fun. After that will be a series of birthday celebrations/ surprises, helping out at ann siang, rocking at various gigs (earth, wind and fire!) and burying my nose(s) into books once again. can't wait!

500 days of summer soundtrack

None of the tracks very spectacular on its own, some of which the overplayed sort. I even find the voices of regina spektor and feist slightly irritating. Yet so unfortunately well put together that i'm angry at myself for not being able to stop listening to it. What i hate about it most is that scenes of the movie run through my head with each song. i just heard on friday that they're in the running for Best Band at the Singapore Hit Awards. Its the first year i've paid attention to this ceremony, in fact i just found out what this award ceremony is actually called. But anyways its quite a big deal since they're up against some quite established groups. I do hope they win, their newest album cheered me up a hell lot during thesis time.

But it is possible they were included just to give the awards some indie cred :((, u know the singapore chinese music scene. (ok actually i don't!)

If I could be anyone in any band ever I would be the tall one in Health. They played in this crap hall near where I live in the Spring. At the end I bought their record. The tall one told me it was £15 - but I only had ten so he gave it me for a tenner. I think he said 'I know times are hard' or something like that. I love the fact that you can play a rocking show and then man your merchandise stall. They were pretty much the most amazing live act I think I've ever seen. I think if I'd ever actually seen at the drive in, they would have been better, but I didn't really 'get them' at the Reading festival in 2000 so I think I went to see Terris instead. What mistake. He dances a bit more like a Singaporean (head down) but in a more exuberant way (arms out)
