There's a British saying saying which goes, 'red sky at night, shepherd's delight, red sky in the morning, shepherd's warning'. It means, if there's a red sunset, the weather will be good the following day, but if the sky's red when you wake up, it's going to be freezing. This is what i saw out of the bathroom window when I got up 15 minutes ago.
Draw your own conclusions thinkers.
After I finished playing tennis yesterday morning, my flatmate offered me a share of a twix he had found in his racket bag. When he broke it in two, instead of there being a pleasant crunching sound followed by the two broken pieces dragging apart a lick of molten toffee, there was a kind of cracking sound and some parts off the toffee shattered like glass. It was frozen solid.
The man in the hut who takes the money before you play said that the oldest man who works on Hampstead Heath says that this 'is what the winters used to be like.' The whole of the heath was white with frost and it was the middle of the day.
On Thursday when I was walking back from the station in the evening, a huge cloud of freezing fog came down in the street and started swirling around me. It was like being inside a cloud. A very cold cloud. I have also recently seen steam rising out of the drains in the evening (people's warm shower water) which I have never seen in London before.
The whole of 2009 in London so far has been a sub zero experience. I never go outside without my silk scarf, three jumpers and my long-johns - infact I'm rarely without them. Right now for example, I am wearing them under my corduroys - I wore them all yesterday and I slept in them. This is pretty gross eh. My sister agrees with me that this is the coldest winter we can remember. It's good for Ken though - he didn't get a proper summer - but now at least he has a proper winter to experience.
Now. More importantly. just exactly how pumped up are you about the arrival of Uniqlo in tampines? I literally buy all my clothes there at the moment.
Here I am making my way to heathrow in the car, to leave for Singapore, almost exactly a year ago today. I would appear to have aged rather alot. dear dear. But at least I don't still wear that awful jacket. What was I thinking? idiot.

My sister is going to become the second member of my family to 'got to asia' this month when she goes to China to lear kung fu at the end of this month. Alarmingly, her blog already has lots of fatalistic Chinese language in it. Oh and er, did I tell you I'm going to TED this year... I guess I should probably blog about it when I'm there.
Happy New Year. I want to leave you with this from the recently parted Isaac Hayes. I'm sure he's in heaven now. But this video would suggest he was already in it. Heaven is a place on earth.
