I knew today was gonna be fab! I just got this in my mailbox today! YEAHHHHHHHHHH! :))


Meet Enjel. She is 5 and lives in Indonesia. And I am just probably the most fortunate person on earth who actually has and got a chance to sponsor her living and release her from poverty. I think I posted on Lemmings previously about Compassion. (please watch the video!) They are a Christian organization who works mainly in children ministry, i.e. feeding poor kids, giving them education, basic sanitary facilities in the Name of Jesus. I was introduced to Enjel at the Hillsong Conference in Sydney, not physically, but just through a written profile of her. On it, there was a picture of her, wearing oversized hand-me-downs and her hair comped neatly. Beyond this picture, I imagined how she must have put all her hopes in smiling her best, just so sponsors would pick her over other kids. But she has no idea how precious and special she already is, smiling her best or not.

Best part is, she will be receiving Christian teaching and is about to discover for herself the Author of Love - Jesus.

I am so beyond excited right now, I'm going to write her a card and send her some kiddy stickers! I hope they will make her smile. This is so cool. I have a reason to visit Indonesia, finally.

Knife Crime

20 teenagers have now been murdered in London this year - 15 with knives. There's a general panic about it here. I'm not massively confident that anything can really be done about it - or more to the point, that *governments* can do anything about it. The same reasons that make it possible for people to be murdered in broad day light, are the same reasons for why it is so hard to do anything about it. People are all over the place. One of the most popular newspapers here has published this set of demands. My comments are in brackets.

1 Give our police tools to catch knife thugs
[Like what? Big nets or something? Guns? What? You don't know do you!]

2 Launch amnesty to bring in the blades
[tried every year year I have been alive. most people are killed with knives from the Kitchen - what are you going to do, hand in your kitchen drawer?]

3 Nurses must report treating stab victims
[fine. but then people who have been stabbed, will be much less likely to go to hospital + there will be a greater incentive to finish someone off before they get to hospital]

4 Teach all pupils that knives solve nothing
[how? the point is that they do solve something - gangs are a fact of life. A knife might well give you a chance against someone much bigger than you]

5 Texts and internet will help win battle
[rrrrighhht. that's a bit vague really...isn't it]

stranger and stranger

have been at a festival/conference in a gasometer in amsterdam for a few days. i had to speak on that circular stage. well scary. met so many interesting people including a guy from engage media who was totally awesome. their site has loads of stuff about activism in SE asia - like when singaporeans stuck it to the G8 last week. It says on the site that singapore is ranked 141 for press freedom out of 167 countries. I think you need to try and find this video: The MDA need to take some MDMA.

yes i'm off in a couple of bloody hours and i'm still rushing my paper. i feel like giving up, but i can't. cos i would be in a deeper load of shit if i do. BIG HUMONGOUS SIGH. right now, i feel so screwed that i don't even know how to begin to get myself out of this rut. and i particularly hate packing! it is even more stressful than writing crap. sigh sigh sigh!

quick hi to the lemmings

today on my way home, i was walking about my neighbourhood and thinking what to get for dinner - i havent done that in about 2-3 months i think. Anyway i was walking and staring at things that i didnt know that my neighbourhood sold, when i bumped into my dad. We ended up having Western Food at this coffeeshop and i thought of u Charlie! Sigh those were the days, and the western food u talked about but never tried !
